It is based on the series resonance principle with tuneable frequency. The aim is to exclude the following faults in particular:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assembly errors in cable terminations or joints<\/li>\n<li>Damage to the cable sheath or the semiconding screen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kabelpruefung_Tabelle-PruefverfahrenE.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6329 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kabelpruefung_Tabelle-PruefverfahrenE-300x154.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kabelpruefung_Tabelle-PruefverfahrenE-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kabelpruefung_Tabelle-PruefverfahrenE-1024x527.png 1024w, https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kabelpruefung_Tabelle-PruefverfahrenE-768x395.png 768w, https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kabelpruefung_Tabelle-PruefverfahrenE-1536x790.png 1536w, https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Kabelpruefung_Tabelle-PruefverfahrenE-2048x1054.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>In compliance with CENELEC HD 632 and in divergence from IEC 60840 and\/or 62067, FKH recommends that a higher test voltage should be applied to cables, but for a reduced testing duration. This recommendation is based on FKH&#8217;s lengthy experience of testing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the test circuit, an inductance L with a high quality factor is connected in series to the capacitanc C<sub>x<\/sub>. Under resonance conditions, a voltage U<sub>p<\/sub> builds up over the test object that is considerably greater than the voltage U<sub>T<\/sub> of the supply transformer. The test frequency is obtained with the following formula:<a href=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Kabel_Cx1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3773\" src=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Kabel_Cx1.png\" alt=\"Kabel_Cx\" width=\"93\" height=\"27\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Kabel-Formel.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4254\" src=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Kabel-Formel.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks to its modular inductances, the test system can be configured for a sufficiently high test frequency to ensure that voltage transformers do not reach magnetic saturation; this eliminates the need to remove them for the test.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Advantages over other methods<br \/>\n<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Power supply required is low<\/li>\n<li>Voltage at the test object is sinusoidal and free of harmonics<\/li>\n<li>Minimal energy release at the fault location in case of test object breakdown<\/li>\n<li>If the inductances are connected in parallel, the frequency can be increased so that voltage transformers can be included in the testing<\/li>\n<li>Additional cable connections and other equipment connected via switchgear can also be included in the testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Partial discharge measurement and other diagnostic methods<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A partial discharge measurement is recommended as an additional measure for important cable sections and higher voltage levels. This involves specific inspections of the cable terminations and joints in order to identify insulation faults. In this way, it is possible to detect flaws that have not yet caused an immediate breakdown, but which harbour the risk of an unexpected insulation failure.<\/p>\n<p>FKH uses the following partial discharge test methods and coupling types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conventional, via a coupling capacitor<\/li>\n<li>With partial discharge sensors integrated into the fittings (joints, terminations)<\/li>\n<li>Via current sensors on the cable shielding<\/li>\n<li>With acoustic emission sensors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1403\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/TE-Bild-300x164.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1403\" class=\"wp-image-3117 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/TE-Bild-300x164.png\" alt=\"Partial discharge level during a voltage test\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/TE-Bild-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/fkh.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/TE-Bild.png 734w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1403\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Partial discharge level during a voltage test<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The modern partial discharge measurement instruments used by FKH allow synchronous measurements at different points.
